In this episode, we explore the mindset of a lawyer turned inventor/entrepreneur, exactly what lead to the creation of this "different type of escape room" and why Alex's highly scalable hybrid is getting an increasing amount of attention.
Alex Patterson started out in corporate law at Davis Polk in New York City and then quickly jumped ship to be in-house counsel for the global obstacle course company Tough Mudder, which at the time was newly founded. After 5 years there, working in various positions, Alex felt ready to take his big leap. He knew he wanted to stay in the ticketed experiential space with a physical element like Tough Mudder, but also wanted to differentiate, leaning more into new technology. It took a year of developing various options for Alex to invent the first tech-enabled escape room with a laser maze and a paint bomb ending, opening in Brooklyn, NY to great success. In this episode, we explore the drive and mindset that lead to Beat the Bomb, how Alex created a highly scalable hybrid business model and why his pandemic pivots are now paying off!
