"This is Miles circa 2011. For those of you who don’t know, he used to sing & dance for a living. And he was good at it, but something was always missing. I don’t often share the story of my traumatic, but necessary exit from the acting profession. As I grow & learn more about equality and as the performing arts community takes a forced pause due to the pandemic, I feel this is the time to share these tales so that the opportunity for change can be taken. Many structures must be redeveloped & the arts industry is no different.
In honor of Black History Month, I had the great honor to be featured on the new podcast Bucket List Careers about my transition from stage performer to corporate consultant with a constant focus on equality in the workspace. This shift was brought on by years of feeling stuck in an industry saturated in institutional racism. The only way to change these structures is to call them what they are. I still kick-ball-change, but in a different way! 😏🕺🏽👊🏽🎉
